“I trust the timing of my unfolding. Like the wild Hawthorn bloom and the Birch in spring, I open with grace, rooted in my truth and guided by breath. I am safe to grow, to shine, to become.” As the wheel of the year turns once more, we arrive beneath the gentle light of the Flower Moon, the fourth lunar cycle in the ancient Celtic lunar calendar. This is a beautiful time of blossoming, awakening, and gentle unfolding, as we celebrate Beltane. A time when the earths energy is on the rise and life is full of vitality as the buds burst open and the earth herself sings with the birds and the blooming flowers filled with pollen to feed the bees. The air is filled with fragrance and a promise of the abundance of life in all her glory. This moon is a sacred threshold, when the full embodiment of spring awakens as life ripens toward summer. Energy is high and life is a celebration. This moon reminds us that just as nature bursts into bloom, we too are invited to open, in our own time, slowly, authentically and with our own rhythm. The Flower Moon takes her name from the abundance of blossoms that grace the land during this time, Hawthorn, primroses, bluebells, foxgloves, the delicate wood anemones and wild rose all blooming in hedgerows and sacred groves. In Celtic tradition, flowers are not mere decorations, they are our allies, our wise elders with much wisdom and medicine to share. Close your eyes and imagine standing barefoot in a sun-dappled meadow, the air thick with fragrance. The Hawthorn blooms beside you, whispering blessings to your heart. The Earth pulses beneath your feet. What does she want you to know? What is stirring in your own inner soil, ready to blossom? This moon is associated with:
The Hawthorn tree, sacred to the fae and to the goddess, is the guardian of this moon. She stands at the threshold between worlds, known in Irish lore as the faery tree, often growing near holy wells and liminal places. Hawthorn medicine is for the heart, both physically and emotionally, offering strength, protection, and softening. Under the Flower Moon, Hawthorn teaches us how to open the heart while keeping it wise and well-boundaried. The Flower Moon calls us to:
Lay beneath the moonlight (even through a window), letting her silver rays bless your skin. Place flowers, a bowl of water, and a candle on your altar to honour this moon, the water holding the energy of reflection, the flame the spark of creation, the flower your blossoming self. This moon is often linked to Blodeuwedd, the Welsh goddess created from flowers. She is wild, beautiful, untamed, and misunderstood, a symbol of the feminine blossoming, and the struggle for autonomy and authentic voice. She reminds us that blooming also brings vulnerability, and that power and softness can co-exist. Spend time watching bees, noticing what draws them. Reflect on what draws you, what flowers of experience are you pollinating right now? Bees are sacred messengers, reminding us of sweetness, service, and the beauty of living in harmony with the hive. Flower Moon Ritual Ideas
Blessed Flower Moon, Teach me to open without fear. To root deeply, bloom wildly, and rest when the petals fall. May I honour what is blossoming, Within me, around me, and in this sacred Earth. Flower Moon Poem “Beloved, you do not need to bloom all at once.
Just open, petal by petal, breath by breath. Trust in the light that finds you, it has always known where you are. Blessed Be Theresa
