Mantra is a word or phrase that is repeated while you meditate. This practice can help you stay focused and present, it gives your mind something to do! However, Mantras also have great power and can support our lives in many ways. So finding the right one can be just as special as the mala beads itself. Mantra is the use of sound to affect our consciousness; Man = Mind; Tra = Heart of Life; Ra = Sun; Mantra is the 'Vibratory effect of your molecules into the infinity of the Cosmos. That is Mantra' Yogi Bhajan Everything in the Universe is in constant motion, vibrating even at a cellular level. When we chant a mantra we are choosing to invoke the positive power contained within the syllables of the mantra and this vibration creates an effect within us. There are 84 meridian points in the roof of the mouth, every time you say a mantra your tongue stimulates these points, which in turn stimulates and affects the glands; the hypothalamus, pituitary and pineal, this then creates a chemical reaction within the brain and body, which can alter our outlook and consciousness. This is why Mantra is so powerful and healing. There are so many mantras to choose from, below are a few examples of some of my favourite mantras :-) One way to choose your mantra is to simply sit, relax, take a few long deep breathes, breathe into your body and allow your mind to quieten. Begin to feel what your intention is; what is your focus for your meditation practice. This could simple be to feel more peaceful, content or happy. You may find a phrase, affirmation or mantra might come to you, or there may be a specific mantra that resonates with you because of its sound or meaning. Or sometimes we are working on a certain part of ourselves, a pattern, habit or shadow and again a specific mantra would be needed to help break the neural pathways, and retrain our thought processes. If you need help choosing your mantra please feel free to contact me and I can help you with this process. Much Love Teja xx
