The Priestess aspect - Guides the path - Transcendent force of time and transition
Elen of the ways is probably our most ancient goddess of mainland Britain today. It is believed that she dates back to the Paleolithic (Old Stone Age). Lady Sovereignty, known as ‘Light of the Land’ and with this illuminates the path of sovereignty which brings regeneration and fertility. Elen is an antlered Goddess, connected to Reindeers, which are migratory animals who made some of the first track-ways across Britain. These trackways also connect with energy lines, the earths ley lines, which are invisible alignments of energy. They are the pathways within the earth that the earths natural forces of kundalini energy flows. These pathways link together sacred sites and places of power. Elen is the protector and guide of these pathways, and also crossroads and paths between this world and the ‘other’, including the physical, mental, emotional or spiritual paths. Her role is to guide the soul through life’s transitions, whether that is from childhood to adulthood, through life crises, personal transitions, life to death or through spiritual awakenings from one spiritual stage to another. Elen is particularly important in Celtic practices of soul travel and spiritual quests, helping souls navigate their way between worlds, especially in times of transformation or death. In this way, Elen can be seen as helping individuals walk through life's "thresholds" and sacred rites of passage. She guides those who have strayed off the conventional and comfortable path in order to follow ‘the unknown’ or ‘pathless path’ of the Forest - the path of the Intuitive, the Seeker, the Shaman or the Priestess. She will help you to have the courage to forge your own path that’s most aligned for you. Goddess of transitions, she helps to navigate and guide souls between the worlds, especially in the context of death and rebirth. Her antlers, which symbolise connection to the heavens and the earth, reflect Elen's role as a bridge between the physical and spiritual realms. Protecting travellers and seekers undertaking pilgrimages or sacred journeys, whether literal or metaphorical. She provides protection as they navigate the physical and spiritual landscapes and sacred paths that lead to wisdom, transformation, and enlightenment. Elen of the ways also connects with the number thirteen, which is held sacred by the Elder tree. The number thirteen can be seen as a symbol of the fullness of these sacred paths, representing the 13 stages or important landmarks on a journey of spiritual transformation. These thirteen paths weave through the landscape, with each offering an initiation for those on a sacred journey. These paths are associated with seasonal cycles, phases of the moon, or stages of the soul's journey through life and death. Celtic mythology speak of thirteen sacred realms, which may include the physical world, the realm of the ancestors, the Otherworld, and other spiritual dimensions. Thirteen representing the divine network of interconnected worlds, which are all connected through Elen’s sacred pathways, showing the multidimensional nature of existence and the soul’s journey through different planes of being. She is the keeper of wild places, the primeval Goddess, and the soul of the forest. She brings balance to the energies of the land, and harnesses the power of the untamed forces of nature. She dwells in the heart of the wood and within the wild, untamed places. You’ll find her with the deer whom run free. She leads us back to the path of our own ancient Shamanic heritage in Britain, where we can remember and reclaim our lost shamanism. Elen of the ways is also the keeper of the sacred water ways, rivers and underground streams that carry the sacred wisdom of our lands. She guides and protects the dream pathways, helping individuals navigate the sacred paths that lead to wisdom, transformation, and enlightenment. She also helps one to navigate the seasonal changes as the light half of the year gives way to the dark half, beginning with Samhain until Imbolc when the light again reclaims its time. Helping us to stay in balance with the natural order and dynamic of the light and dark and the cyclical nature of the natural world. Elen of the Ways embodies many of the Crone archetype's core qualities, particularly when it comes to her association with nature's cycles, wisdom, and the passage of time and her deep connections to nature, the wilds, and the transcendent forces of time and transition. There are also some intriguing parallels and connections between Elen and the Celtic Goddess Danu and their shared associations with the earth, transformation, and the spiritual energy of the land. For now lets leave that as a curious thread to follow later!!....
